Autumn News from Lewes Fencing Club

Welcome to the latest newsletter from Lewes Fencing Club

This autumn we celebrate our first birthday. We want to thank you for supporting LFC over the past 12 months and for helping to make the Club such a success.

We’ve achieved a lot in a short space of time, including a successful grant award from Sports England and our first interclub competition in July which was attended by over 40 adult and junior fencers from Lewes, Brighton, Eastbourne and Worthing fencing clubs.

AGM

We’ll be holding our Annual General Meeting on Sunday 21st October from 12.15pm – 12.45pm at Lewes Leisure Centre. This meeting will be an opportunity for you to hear how the Club has done over the past year, elect representatives for the committee and have a say on what we should focus on in 2013.

If you’d like to attend the meeting then please speak to one of the Committee members.

New term fees due on Sunday 7th October

We continue to offer some of the lowest fees of any fencing club in Sussex, despite increased hall hire costs. From Sunday 7th October fees will be:

Juniors and those in full-time education – £50 for the term, £180 for 12 months

Adults – £60 for for the term, £220 for 12months

LFC still offers great value for money, with a Club session costing £5 for juniors/those in full-time education and £6 for adults, when paying for the autumn term.

Autumn dates, times and class structure

The term will run from Sunday 7th October – Sunday 9th December (10 sessions). Club times are 10am – 12noon, with the Junior class finishing at 11.30am.

We are keen to help members increase their fencing skills so we have developed a new class structure to allow more coaching time for adults and juniors:

Time Juniors Adults
10am – 10.15am Warm up Warm up
10.15am – 11am Coaching from Head Coach Fighting on the piste
11am – 11.30am Supervised piste/steam fighting or fencing games Group coaching from Head Coach or piste fights
11.30am – 12noon Finished One-to-one* with Head Coach or piste fights

* If time permits, please pre-book with the Coach

Our warms ups are important, they help prevent injury and also include elements of technique so we ask that you are ready to start at 10am sharp.

If you have any questions about the new structure then please get in touch with us or speak to Gerad Harmer, Head Coach.

Christmas competition – 16th December

To round of the autumn we will run another interclub competition on Sunday 16th December for Juniors and Adults. This is a great opportunity for you to have a go at individual competitive fencing in a friendly atmosphere. If you’d like to take part in the competition then please speak to one of the Committee members.  More information and prices will be available closer to the time.

We look forward to welcoming you to Lewes Fencing Club this autumn.

Best wishes
