Autumn term start date and new fencing league.

Dear Lewes Fencing Club member,

We hope you are having a great summer holiday and are ready to return to Lewes Fencing Club with a spring in your step.

Our regular Sunday club sessions start again from Sunday 2nd September, running 10am – 12noon (junior fencers finish at 11.30am). Members who have paid for the development sessions with Professor Steve Paul are reminded that these will also be starting on Sunday 2nd September kicking off at 10am and finishing at12noon.

In order to ensure that we can provide a great experience for all fencers please can you arrive in plenty of time so we can begin coaching at 10am.

If you’re looking for additional fencing opportunities during the week then you might be interested in a fencing league which fencing coach Rob Parsons is setting up on Wednesday evenings. Please contact Rob directly if you are interested in taking part in this league, more details below.

We look forward to seeing you again at the Club this September.

Best wishes

Lewes Fencing Club.

Message to LFC members from Rob Parsons:

New Fencing League – starting Wednesday 12th September

On Wednesday evenings between 6.30 and 8pm I will be running a Fencing League at Western Road School, Lewes.

Over the course of 6 months all attendees will be put into poules upon arrival and fight each other once. The person with the most number of wins over the course of the six months wins the league! After the poule fights have finished you are welcome to stay and have different bouts too.

Here’s the twist – The league will be run in the format of Modern Pentathlon Fencing which is based on a single point fight! As soon as a single point is scored the match is over. The clock will also be for 1 minute only and double hits don’t count. If the clock runs out and there is no winner both competitors are counted as having lost. The reason it’s in Modern Pentathlon style is so that everyone stands a chance as one point isn’t much and anything can happen – Juniors can beat adults and it’s a great experience for all ages.

THE PRIZE – The person with the most wins at the end of the six months will receive a Leon Paul voucher worth £75 as well as being able to use my 10% Leon Paul discount to purchase new equipment. Two runners up will receive a signed copy of Professor Steve Paul’s new Fencing book.

The league will be run on a ‘pay as you go’ basis and fencers must either have their own kit or book my kit in advance. The fees will be £5 for anyone in full time education and £7.50 for everyone else.

Remember, the session will be for 90mins, not an hour so there will be plenty of time to have lots of bouts after the poule has finished. Poules will kick off at 6.45 sharp so if you are late you will still be put in a poule but forfeit the bouts you have missed.

If you’d like to take part then please contact me, Rob Parson, directly (not Lewes Fencing Club) at the following email address rob@fencingforall.co.uk

First day is 12th September…………Good luck!!
