It’s Chrisssstmaaaas, almost! |
Hi All Quick reminder It is our last session on 13th December before Christmas. A recap of the year Well, what a year!, there was a big change for the club, one which meant that with sadness we said goodbye to Gerad, his job and commitments elsewhere meant he had to give up his head coach position with us. Thankfully Lewis McInley was looking to move to the area and fitted our needs perfectly, providing much appreciated support as we reopened. . We had planned a nice smooth handover but COVID put a stop to that and added in numerous restrictions which we thank everyone for complying with. Hopefully Gerad will be back to visits at some point so we can say goodbye properly. We would have been having our Christmas Social this weekend. Again COVID has put a stop to that, but hopefully we can make up for it at the Summer social. It will also be the clubs 10th birthday next year so much to celebrate. We have to say thank you to you guys, when we were able to fence you came out in force. Having an average of 21 people each week at this point is truly amazing. We hope that with all the work the BFA* is doing behind the scenes we will be fully open again soon. But trust us when we say we will be open as much as the Government, BFA and Lewes Leisure Centre will let us. Della, Gordon, Lewis and Thor all took a Level 2 Epee Referee course this year, they all passed the theory section and now just have to do a practical at a competition next year, that could be tricky at least in the 1st half. But it’s good to see that people are looking to broaden their fencing knowledge. Watch out for us as we could be coming down hard on the rule infringements :-). Next Term Currently we are due back on the 10th of January. Whilst we hope things will change for the better between now and then we can’t be sure, so for now we will continue with the U18’s but if something changes we will of course open it up. For those coming this Sunday (13th Dec) we look forward to seeing you, and if not we wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Best wishes Anita, Claire, Della, Gordon, Lewis and Simon. * People often ask why they have to be members of the BFA apart from the insurance element it is at times like these they help the grassroot sports. We would not be fencing now without their lobbying of the Government. So I do urge you to check if your BFA membership expired, if it has renew it and let the club know your new end date. Normal COVID housekeeping notes we would like you to review. Kit, please make sure you know where your kit is and keep it under your control, if your kit accidentally or purposefully gets used by someone else make sure they/you sanitize it before re use. 2m rule, even when we are in our piste bubbles please make sure you keep two meters apart unless you are fencing. This has been re-iterated by the British Fencing Association as one of the reasons we have been allowed to open when other sports have not and they are keen to make sure we adhere to it. Mixing between bubbles, please do not do this, even if you are able to mix outside of the club. Please try to fence everyone on your piste during a session, if you need to leave early then please arrange it with other members of your piste. If you are under 18 please make sure one of the committee knows you have left. You can still borrow kit if you need to or need to exchange something you have already borrowed, please get in contact with us to make sure we have it with us on Sunday. Remember you will need to do the following (only 2 & 3 if you have already done 1 previously). Booking will close on Friday so that we have time to allocate you to a piste. 1.
